MEC Update

A MESSAGE FROM THE SUNWING AIRLINES MASTER EXECUTIVE COUNCIL

July 30, 2025

Fellow pilots,

The WestJet MEC is currently scheduled for arbitration later in the year on utilizing sec 238.1 of the Canada Labour Code and IPG-120 (Reimbursement of Work-Related Expenses) to further their demand that WestJet reimburse their pilots for the costs of headsets. The contention is that this section of the Code requires the company to supply headsets as they are a reasonable work-related expense. As such, we are reaching out to ALPA Canada pilots to complete the survey below as your responses will help set a precedent for reimbursable expenses and therefore shape the future of professional pilot entitlements in Canada.

All responses will be de-identified and the data will only be used as evidence in the upcoming arbitration hearing.

The survey is short and is estimated to take less than five (5) minutes to complete and will help raise the floor for all pilots in Canada.

Please find the link below for the Headset survey:

As we will all be WestJet pilots by the end of summer, it is in our best interest to complete this survey to assist our colleagues.

Thank you in advance for completing this survey.

In unity,

Your MEC
